Diploma In Canine Exercise Rehabilitation
The Diploma in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation comprises four units. This provides learners with the opportunity to study the Diploma as a whole or the unit certificates of interest individually.
The Diploma in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation is made up of the following four unit certificates:
- Foundation in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation
- Exercise Rehabilitation for the Canine Orthopaedic Patient
- Exercise Rehabilitation for the Canine Neurological Patient
- Clinical Practice in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation
The certificated units can be studied individually or as part of the overall Diploma. The Foundation certificate forms the basis for the other courses. Those who would like to progress from the Foundation in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation can next choose to study either Exercise Rehabilitation for the Canine Orthopaedic Patient or Exercise Rehabilitation for the Canine Neurological Patient. To complete the full Diploma, learners must study all four unit Certificates including the attended Clinical Practice in Canine Exercise Rehabilitation.
The individual unit certificates are studied online with the exception of the clinical practice unit which includes an attended two day workshop in the UK. Learners from outside the UK may be able to carry out the practical workshop locally – please contact us for options.
Level 3 Certificate in Veterinary Nursing; Level 3 Certificate in Canine Hydrotherapy; Level 3 or above in a canine musculoskeletal therapy.
Those who do not strictly meet the entry requirements should contact us. We offer entry course options to the right candidates.
Learners are expected to have a certain amount of prior knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and general physiology of dogs. Learners will also need access to cases for course work so should be in employment or in a volunteer position at either a veterinary practice or a hydrotherapy/rehabilitation centre.
Learning delivery and time allocation
The first three unit certificates in the Diploma are delivered online and can be studied from anywhere in the world. The final unit includes a two day workshop in the UK – learners from outside the UK may be able to carry out training locally – please contact us for options. Learners can enrol at any time and study at their own pace.
The Diploma is part time and with an average study time of 10/15 hours per week, can be completed in as little as one year. Each unit certificate can be completed in 10/15 weeks; however, learners have up to one year to complete each unit certificate so can study at their own pace, building towards the Diploma over a number of years if they wish. The learning time comprises studying course material, completing tasks, carrying out further reading and own research, and completion of the assessments.
The final grade for the diploma comprises grades from the individual units along with practical assessment of clinical skills and submission of two case studies.
Outside of the workshop, study is independent, however learners have access to discussion forums where they can connect with their fellow students – and this is encouraged. Learners are also assigned a tutor, who will be available for help if and when it is needed.
